Bangsamoro Authority Announces Day of Arafah and Eid al-Adha Dates for 2026

The Islamic authority in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has officially announced the commencement of the blessed month of Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH on May 18, 2026, and the observance of the Day of Arafah and Eid al-Adha for the same year. The Day of Arafah is set to fall on May 26, 2026, while Eid al-Adha is scheduled for May 27, 2026. Both events are significant in the Islamic calendar, with Eid al-Adha being the second-most important event.

In an advisory, the Islamic authority in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao added that the Day of Arafah will be observed on May 26.

“The Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta’ officially announces the commencement of the blessed month of Dhul-Hijjah 1447 AH on May 18, 2026,” it said. “In line with this, the observance of the Day of Arafah shall fall on May 26, 2026, while the joyous celebration of Eid al-Adha shall be observed on May 27, 2026,” it added.

“As Muslims around the world welcome these sacred days of devotion, sacrifice, and reflection, the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta’ calls upon the Ummah to maximize this blessed season through sincere worship, prayers, fasting, charity, and acts of compassion and unity,” it said. Eid al-Adha is the second-most important event in the Islamic calendar, according to the Bangsamoro government. During the three-day celebrations, Muslim families gather together to honor Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah with gifts and feasting.

Also known as “the Festival of Sacrifice,” Muslims around the world will celebrate it on a date which falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and last month of the Muslim lunar calendar, the Bangsamoro government said.for the observance of Eid'l Adha shall be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or upon Islamic astronomical calculations.
