The Town of Banff is looking at making the temporary pedestrian\u002Donly zone seen on its main drag through the last two summers permanent.

The three councillors who voted against the motion cited the need to consult residents before looking at potential costs.

Wanda Bogdane is the executive director of the Banff and Lake Louise Hospitality Association, an advocacy organization that represents multiple tourism-focused businesses in Banff.Article content While supportive of the initiative as a test, Bogdane said the conversation on permanency “could be a bit premature,” coming a year before the pilot project is meant to end.

“If we continue to reduce the amount of personal vehicles travelling across the bridge, it’s a win for everybody,” she said. “Cars are what cause traffic, so we need to continue to get visitors out of their cars and onto transit and active modes.”
