Greens leader Adam Bandt has had a fiery clash with a Sky News Australia journalist while attempting to defend his party’s stance on the escalating conflict in Israel and Palestine.
The minor party has called on Labor to change its position on Israel, saying the country had crossed a line with its retaliatory attacks on Gaza.
The Greens were isolated in their support for the amendment, with the exception of two Teal MPs, North Sydney’s Kylea Tink and Mackellar’s Sophie Scamps. Picture: Carl Court/Getty Images "At the time we were asked to consider the motion, we had in front of us the United Nations saying these orders that the Israeli military is giving people to move amounts to a death sentence because there is nowhere for them to go,” he said.
“The international community needs to take steps to stop the invasion, then take steps to ensure the hostages are released," he said.And then have an immediate ceasefire, and then work out how to have a just and lasting peace,” he said. “Do we need to take with a grain of salt whether Israel is necessarily targeting these civilians, or if they’re put in harms way,” Connell said.
