The City Government of Bacolod is ready to provide assistance to the local government units in Negros Occidental that were affected by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Monday, December 9. Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez stated that they are awaiting the final count of evacuees and are prepared to offer necessary support. “We’ve ensured that, even though it’s December, we have sufficient resources for any emergencies. That’s why we’ve kept spending low this Christmas season,” he explained.
When asked if Bacolod City was impacted by the eruption’s ashfall, Benitez confirmed that the city was spared, as the wind direction carried the ash in the opposite direction. “There have been no reports or predictions indicating Bacolod will be affected by the eruption,” he added. The mayor also shared that Bacolod has prepared evacuation centers in case they need to accommodate families from the affected LGUs. “We are only waiting for the final reports from the LGUs.
