Stone said the issue might seem like “inside baseball” to British Columbians, but he said the time wasted debating minor legislation means MLAs are not debating the health-care crisis, the overdose crisis, or potential solutions to housing affordability. “We’re at day 95 of Premier Eby’s 100 days of action, and frankly, I’m hard-pressed to point to much that’s representative of the kind of action and the kind of bold measures that ,” Stone said.Article content
On Tuesday, members of the NDP caucus filibustered their own bill to run out the clock, as they had done last week. The debate was over the Real Estate Services Amendment Act, a two-sentence bill that implements a technical change to real estate legislation that even Finance Minister Katrine Conroy herself said was minor.
The absence of substantial bills to debate ahead of the Feb. 28 budget is in stark contrast to the fall legislative session when the New Democrats forced through major pieces of legislation without adequate time to debate each section, said Adam Olsen, house leader for the B.C. Greens., which has faced backlash from health-care professionals such as chiropractors, dentists and doctors who say changes to the way B.C.
