“Holiday season storms are increasing mainly because of climate change, and this is something B.C. Hydro has been preparing for by increasing staffing and other measures,” says Susie Rieder B.C. Hydro is getting ready to deal with another wave of snow, powerful arctic winds and extreme cold in the days leading up to Christmas. That system has the potential to disrupt some people’s holiday plans, something that has happened to 20 per cent of those who have recently dealt with a power outage. The biggest disruptions have been for those living on Vancouver Island, according to a survey.
