This season, five emerging local designers brought their collections to New York and Paris.
label is a second-generation Coast Salish Design House on the Snuneymuxw First Nation, produced and designed by sisters Aunalee and Sophia Good. Couture garment design and construction is mentored by their mother, Sandra Moorhouse-Good, who had the very first Coast Salish clothing line with their father, Dr. William Good, in the 1990s. Artwork on the custom-made fabrics is by their brother, Joel Good.
The collection presented in N.Y. was a juxtaposition of traditional outfits and headpieces, interspersed with couture pieces, reflecting the duality of worlds and cultures that we walk in. The talented family writes and performs songs to accompany the runway presentations, sharing traditional stories about the clothing designs through modernized beats and the hul’q’umi’num language.
While in New York, the family presented at the Consulate General of Canada and co-hosted a rooftop party with the Decolonizing Wealth Project. The family is currently constructing a facility in Nanaimo, which will be a studio and place to gather, uplift and share. The unique and aspirational brand is available in boutiques and gift shops across the province, including on B.C. Ferries.Article contentis no stranger to attention.
Dryden Sereda had a lucrative career as a power engineer while experimenting with a self-taught fashion label called Mngld Supply. Taking a leap of faith in 2020, Sereda swapped his career for a spot in the Visual College of Art and Design’s program where his talent caught the attention of instructorUpon receiving a Nancy Mak award for his strong creative vision and business acumen, Dryden was able to launch hisline at Vancouver Fashion Week in April and at Paris Fashion Week this month.
