Victoria Azarenka has clarified why an umpire asked her to take a shirt off before her Australian Open semi-final in a press conference where she later became visibly irritated with journalists asking her about pro-Russian demonstrators.
Azarenka was attempting to continue her magnificent run at the Gran Slam when she met Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in the semi-final but she was outclassed by the 2022 Wimbledon champion going down 7-6, 6-3.
The two-time Australian Open champion explained after the match she wears the shirt because her son, Leo, supports PSG and hopes to one day play for the team and said it was an issue with the logo size. Azarenka will leave Melbourne Park after making her best run at the tournament since she won back-to-back Australian Opens in 2012 and 2013.
