Authorities in Central Visayas are preparing for a safe, peaceful, fair, and orderly election in May 2025. The Commission on Elections ( Comelec ) and the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 officially opened the Regional Election Monitoring Action Center (Remac) on Thursday, January 9, 2025, led by Attorney Francisco Pobe, Regional Director, and Police Brigadier General Dionisio Bartolome, Officer in Charge of the Police in Central Visayas.
According to Pobe, the Remac will serve as a coordinating office to gather statistical data and monitor all election-related activities, incidents, or non-incidents across the region, which now includes Bohol and the entire island of Cebu after Negros Oriental and Siquijor joined the Negros Island Region. Pobe assured that, so far, there have been no election-related incidents reported by PRO 7 and the Visayas Command, indicating that Central Visayas remains peaceful. Comelec announced that, at 12:01 am on January 12, 2025, they will begin implementing election protocols, including a focus on peace and order. The police force pledged that their personnel will remain impartial and will uphold their mandate as instructed by the Comelec to ensure a peaceful, fair, and orderly election this year. Police Brigadier General Dionisio Bartolome, Officer in Charge of PRO 7, emphasized that all police personnel have received strict orders to follow the law. Comelec is also closely monitoring candidates who may use events like the Sinulog Festival for campaigning, as this could be considered an election offense. However, Pobe clarified that if a candidate's intention is solely to celebrate and pay homage to the Santo Niño, there would be no issue
