"This is early days for the test for us, but what we're thinking of in the future is, you might take a pill with one of our engineered bacteria in it," Dr Woods told ABC Radio Adelaide. "Then maybe you'd go and have a blood test and not have to deal with any of the yucky things about the current testing."Dr Woods said she hoped the bacteria could be used to screen for other, harder-to-detect cancers, like pancreatic cancer, that is often found late.
"What's crazy in our minds is that less than half of the people that get that current test actually do it," she said.
