The Royal Australian Mint has released the design of the final coin to feature Queen Elizabeth II - with one stark difference.
There have been six portraits of the Queen used on Australian coins since the late monarch ascended to the thrown and next month’s coin will be the final design to feature her face.
Royal Australian Mint CEO Leigh Gordon said the obverse was a “really humbling tribute” to her Majesty’s service to the Commonwealth and Australia while ensuring the circulation of coins until King Charles III’s effigy was created. The design was released on Wednesday and will be used on collectible and investment coins from January 1 next year. Picture: Supplied
