Penny Wong says Australia will “always be a steadfast friend” of Israel, as the Foreign Minister confirmed a reversal of the previous government’s recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“We were amongst the first countries to formally recognise Israel under Labor Prime Minister Ben Chifley,” Ms Wong said during a media
conference on Tuesday.“We are equally unwavering in our support of the Palestinian people, including in the provision of humanitarian support.”
