A leading Jewish organisation has urged the Albanese government to remain on Israel's side after Foreign Minister Penny Wong called for"humanitarian pauses" in Gaza.
But while Israel continues to ramp up its bombardment on Hamas targets in Gaza, calls are growing for pauses in the conflict in order to protect civilian life. When asked if a senior member of the Albanese government should visit Israel, he said:"It would be a beautiful act of solidarity and I can understand why the Opposition is calling for it."
"This will be a long and difficult campaign. It's aim is to destroy Hamas so it can never inflict these horrors on the world again, and it's vitally important that Australia and the civilised world maintains support for Israel, while it does what it absolutely needs to do."
