Aussie secure record medal haul at world champs after rare double podium

Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh earned her war-afflicted country its first gold medal of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest when she won the women’s high jump on Sunday.

The result lifted Australia to its best-ever medal haul at a world athletics championships, with the nation winning six medals in Budapest. It also marked the first time Australia had two athletes on the same podium at a world championships, a feat Australia hasn’t achieved for an athletics event at an Olympic Games since 1968.Silver medallist, Australia's Eleanor Patterson, gold medallist, Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh and bronze medallist, Australia's Nicola Olyslagers.

“I am so proud to win this gold for my country. I can’t wait to go back and show this medal to my coach,” Mahuchikh said.
