Lightsource bp, the largest solar developer and owner in Australia, has been selected to develop one of New Zealand’s largest solar development at Christchurch Airport.
Lightsource and Contact Energy said a series of developments in New Zealand was expected to be announced soon.Lightsource and Contact Energy – which signed a co-operation agreement in 2022 – said the Christchurch development will initially consist of a solar farm that will span around 300 hectares just behind the airport’s runways.
“Kōwhai Park will enable low emissions aviation and help provide the extra green energy New Zealand needs to transition away from fossil fuels. We’re excited to have found partners with the technical capability to do this well and the values to ensure it’s done right,” said Christchurch Airport chief executive Justin Watson.Lightsource bp has over 1GW of generating capacity in construction and operation in Australia.
