The life and career of long-time weatherman Alan Wilkie is being remembered, after the Australian TV legend died, aged 94.

Wilkie joined the Nine Network in the late 1970s and delivered the weather on Nine for more than 25 years.The life and career of long-time weatherman Alan Wilkie is being remembered, after the Australian TV legend died, aged 94.Wilkie grew up in the small Queensland town of Childers and became an unlikely TV star after hating his first TV appearance."They covered me in thick make-up, rouge, lipstick, eyeshadow, the whole bit.

Alan joined the Nine Network in the late 1970s and delivered the weather on Nine for more than 25 years."It was in the very first week of television and I nearly died. I was so frightened. I don't remember a single thing I said, but it must have been all right." At first, Wilkie wanted to become a teacher but went on to study science instead at the University of Queensland, majoring in maths and physics.He later did a post-graduate course in meteorology in Melbourne before he began working for the Commonwealth Bureau of Meteorology in Brisbane, Melbourne, Woomera and Sydney from 1950 to 1960, which is when his TV career first began.

Wilkie passed away peacefully last night with his three children Andrew, Katrina and Michelle by his side.Continue reading
