Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says Australia “may get” one more rise after the federal budget “just to make certain that inflation is stone dead.”

“You go back into history, the Reserve Bank was the last of the major central banks to start raising interest rates, it was the first of the major central banks to start tapering interest rates,” he told Sky News Australia.

“Maybe Australia might be the first of the central banks to start cutting interest rates, and the suggestion is, if the Australian economy really does cool, which is forecast in the second half of the year … that could be the time for an interest rate cut. “You may get one more rise after the federal budget … just to make certain that inflation is seen to be stone dead.”
