Australia and India are set to build an even stronger alliance after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese furthered discussions on economic and people-to-people ties with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the bilateral meeting in Sydney.

The Australian PM held formal discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday morning, building on a number of diplomatic outcomes previously discussed at the Australia-India Annual Leaders’ Summit in March this year.

Matters spoken about in the meeting revolved around the “key pillars” shaping the close-knit Australia-India alliance, including trade, investment, business, and immigration policies. “Australia is a better place because of the contributions of the Indian-Australian community, and we want to see more connections between our countries,” Mr Albanese said.

A Centre for Australia-India Relations will be based in Parramatta in Sydney’s west to cater to the large migrant community of the South-Asian country in Australia. At a community event in Sydney on Tuesday night, Indian PM Modi unveiled plans to open a new Consulate in Brisbane to cater to long banked-up demands of the diaspora.
