Australia has a new icon wine, and I was one of the first in the world to taste it.
Penfolds Bin 180 Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz 2021 gets virtual perfect score from wine experts, set to fly out the door
It is called Penfolds Bin 180 Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz 2021 and has won the approval of the wine cognoscenti with leading critics Ken Gargett, Huon Hooke and Tyson Stelzer each awarding it 99 points. The commemorative Bin 180 was for me the showstopper at the release of the 2024 Penfolds collection, which included 25 wines made from grapes harvested from vineyards across Australia, US, France, and China. It took all afternoon to taste these treasures from our leading winery.
It was matured for 16 months in one-year-old French oak hogsheads in stark contrast to the treatment of Grange, which is only ever matured in new American oak barrels.
