IPA Senior Fellow Dr Jennifer Marohasy says last year was a year of floods and rain in Australia however it was not unprecedented and not the worst on record.
“The flood drought cycle tends to follow changes in the air pressure systems across the pacific which are measured by the SOI,” she told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“It was exacerbated by the eruption of the Tongan volcano on the 15th of January spewing a lot of ash and water into the atmosphere and that exacerbated the flooding.”
