Australia is considering joining an international crowdfunding effort to provide Ukraine with money to purchase high-tech military equipment following a personal plea from President Volodymyr Zelensky to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
During a telephone call with Albanese on Tuesday night, Zelensky raised the prospect of Australia providing direct cash assistance — as well as equipment from Australia’s military stockpile — to Ukraine. “President Zelensky put forward a range of requests that we’ll consider,” Albanese told Sky News after the phone call.
