As the Ukraine war depletes Western armies’ arms and armour, Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy travels to Munich and hears calls for Australia to help out.
| Australia could be drafted deeper into Europe’s scramble to restock its armies as the Russia-Ukraine war, Mr Conroy met European defence procurement ministers and also the major German arms maker Rheinmetall, whose Queensland-based operations could even play a role.
“Their ability to produce further Boxers beyond what Australia needs, that is something that people are interested in,” Mr Conroy said. “The Ukrainians have done a brilliant job managing an incredibly fragmented defence material base,” he said. “He has been more interested in getting access to more spare parts and documentation for weapon systems around the world,” Mr Conroy said.
But Mr Conroy said no inference should be drawn from his visit about what kind of submarine Australia is acquiring, or from whom.
