‘I feel weird about this as it’s my first full-time job.’ 7NEWS

An office employee has detailed her frustration after she was asked to contribute an “inappropriate” amount of money towards a $500 Christmas gift for her boss.

The youngest employee - who’s on the lowest salary - said she felt the contribution was unfair, especially since she didn’t have “any kind of work relationship” with her boss.“I seriously can’t justify why our boss should receive a $500 gift from all of us - a pretty well-off person too,” she wrote anonymously in a Reddit thread.

Her post was met with more than 200 comments - with many agreeing that being asked to contribute $50 for a colleague was “not normal”.“Is everyone in the team getting a $500 gift? If not, tell them to get f***ed, politely of course. Boss already gets paid more than you do,” one said.“I’d be most happy with a card and kind words at most. No way should you feel pressured to put in that much for a gift.

Another person told the woman she was “not obligated” to her colleagues in “any way outside” of her work duties.
