Local businesses including Coles and Dan Murphy’s have been called on to stop importing and selling Russian products in protest of the invasion of Ukraine.

Australia’s ethnic Ukrainian community has urged local businesses including supermarket giant Coles and major liquor chain Dan Murphy’s to stop importing and selling Russian products in protest against the invasion of Ukraine.

“We all understand the importance of business and economics, but in Australia people are drinking Russian vodka and consuming Russian products. We know [a ban] is hardcore, but this is a war and the message has to get through that all trade with Russia be stopped,” the federation’s chairman, Stefan Romaniw, told“That is the only thing that Putin and his cowboys will understand. We have to hit them where it hurts, and that means money.

Following the divestment of Endeavour, it is understood Woolworths does not directly source any imports from Russia. Mr Romaniw said the suspension of vodka sales was symbolic, given the product was among the most famous of Russian exports.“We already have one hotel in Bendigo ready to pour Russian vodka down the drain,” he said. He declined to name the pub in question.
