Former foreign minister Alexander Downer says AUKUS is “very important” in the context of the rise of China and the need for a stable Indo-Pacific region.
“As I’ve said for many, many years, you’ll only achieve that if there are two things,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“One is there’s an an appropriate balance of power in the Indo-Pacific region – if China is not able to dominate the whole region.
