The CEO of B.C.\u0027s largest non\u002Dprofit housing provider has resigned after a scathing report that found a culture of conflict of interest.
“The board thanks Janice for helping thousands of women and children over her 31 years of leadership at Atira,” board chair Elva Kim said in a statement. “The focus for the Board now is working collaboratively with the B.C. government and B.C. Housing, and restoring the public’s confidence in Atira’s integrity, vision, mission, purpose and values.”Premier David Eby, Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon and B.C. Housing’s board of directors had all called for Abbott to step down.
On Friday, Atira’s board announced it had established a task force that would oversee a “comprehensive third-party review of Atira’s policies and practices including how it makes decisions on real estate matters and deals with potential conflicts of interest.”Article content The report found Atira’s leadership team would circumvent the traditional B.C. Housing channels and “make important financial decisions with the expectation that support from B.C. Housing would follow.”
