Every Sunday, the questioning and the hopeful file into Sunday Service. This is not, however, your usual hour at church, but a few folks intrigued by the arcane and looking to the universe for answers. Rizz Young of Qveen of Swords Tarot presides over this small, sacred congregation in their garden, pouring specially selected wine and reading tarot for those assembled.but didn’t start reading tarot seriously until a relationship ended in 2015.
Now, their wine savvy has come in handy as well. Young left social work in 2019 and developed a passion for wine, taking classes and starting a sommelier certification at George Brown College. They work at wine bar Paradise Grapevine, and just started Nice Time, a business that provides natural-wine curation for events. But they still cherish Sunday Service, a time to connect with clients in a cosier way.
Young started hosting Sunday Service in their garden in spring 2021, offering a bottle of wine, a reading, and artisanal bread and butter for $175 per person; there’s usually one or two services per Sunday and“I love doing it because it felt so rare during the pandemic to spend time with a stranger,” Young says. “It’s a unique experience. I try to create a very romantic, beautiful scene to make people feel cared for.
