Firefighters have contained a blaze that was burning out of control at Bulla in Melbourne's north-west, with at least one building damaged by the fire.

Authorities had warned residents to leave, but just after 5pm the threat was downgraded and residents of the area were told they could "resume normal activities". The fire was travelling from Loemans Road in a northerly direction towards Bulla and aerial footage showed damage to at least one building.Emergency services are expected to remain in the area for another couple of hours, and warned smoke would be visible in nearby communities and roads.
