KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — Former Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has been appointed the party’s new secretary-general, replacing Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

According to a statement from the party, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made the appointment along with that of Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said as the new information chief.Zahid made the appointments in the first meeting of the Umno supreme council today, following the conclusion of the party’s internal election last week.

He also named 13 party leaders to the supreme council, including Tan Sri Shahrizat Jalil and Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed. Shahrizat had tried to return as the Wanita Umno chief during the party elections but was unable to overcome the incumbent, Datuk Noraini Ahmad.
