Another incredible life story emerges from the Armagh camp in the wake of their first Sam Maguire title since 2002.

AUGUST 5, 2017: Tyrone obliterate Armagh in the All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park. No words are required. The scoreline says enough: 3-17 to 0-8.

“Like, I haven’t seen Ella grow up really,” he says. “But she told me on the Hogan it was all worth it, so all is good.”“There’s obviously a lot of the guys who have kids now, but they are in nappies,” he says. “But Ella, I had her when I was 20. She’s old enough. She’s experienced it all. “Do you know, she is light-hearted enough. She probably didn’t mean what she said, the naivety of it, but I left that conversation thinking, it’s a lot.

But, a man who he says, smiling, is, “manipulative in a way” was in his ear, whispering. Painting a picture. Not that he was paid much heed at the time. “He just reminded me of it coming off the field , ‘What did I tell you in the club?’ Kieran and his memory. I'm struggling to break that game down just now, and what I had for breakfast, but he's rhyming off stuff from Clan na Gael in 2013, 2014. Unbelievable.”

Campbell was outstanding that afternoon, hitting four points from play - including two in stoppage time - in a 2-13 to 1-15 Round 2 qualifer defeat at Castlebar. “It worked for that summer and maybe a month or two after but I relapsed and then it was a constant then from 2015 right through to ‘18. “They had a rough idea of what I was going through but not to the extent. They would have noticed the credit cards etc.

“That gave me the courage in the first few months in particular and I have tweeted every year since. But the journey, I’m proud of what I've done. Proud of the team. Proud of the help I have had but it wouldn't have been possible without them lads .
