An area southwest of Biggar, Saskatchewan has been evacuated following an 'out-of-control' grass fire that has caused a state of emergency in the small town due to smoke and poor air quality.
Last Updated Tuesday, April 23, 2019 5:04AM EDTThe local RCMP is advising residents of Biggar, about 93 kilometres west of Saskatoon in central Saskatchewan, to avoid the southwest area as fire crews battle the fire.
Officials say residents in Biggar have not yet been advised to evacuate but have been told to be prepared to leave the town if necessary. At approximately 4 a.m. ET, the town of Biggar declared a state of emergency due to smoke and poor air quality.
