Apple recently announced its latest partnership with the chipmaker, ARM. The new deal, which was penned for the long-term, is
expected to last well beyond 2040, and should bring about an initial public offering worth US$52 billion .
This isn’t the first time Apple and ARM have entered into a partnership. Back in 1990, the company from Cupertino was one of the initial investors into the chipmaker. In 1993, the fruit brand launched the doomed-to-fail Newton, which was powered by an ARM-based processor. Fast forward to today, ARM has thrived in the electronics industry, with several of its chips being lauded and used in smartphones, desktops, primarily for their low costs, impressive power consumption, and minimal heat generation.
