The Calgary Flames need the Winnipeg Jets to drop points if they’re going to have any chance at making the playoffs.
The Jets play the San Jose Sharks on Monday. OK, that’s a game they should probably win, although it’s worth noting the Sharks won two previous meetings between the teams this season.
They’re both in the thick of a truly vicious fight for positioning at the top of the NHL’s Central Division and have a lot to play for. Nobody’s going to be expecting them to rest players when home-ice advantage could be on the line and they should be playing with the same urgency and, potentially, desperation as the Jets.
“Sour taste from this one and it’s going to sting a little bit tonight,” Flames centre Elias Lindholm told reporters in Vancouver after Saturday night’s defeat. “Right back to practice tomorrow and we go again.”Article content But those are questions for another day, after their playoff fate is well and truly sealed and the focus shifts to what comes next instead of the game that’s directly in front of them.
