Colorful lights, decorations of various shapes and sizes that adorn a 45-foot Christmas tree made of thousands of recyclable materials and a grand fireworks display officially ushered in the Christmas Fiesta 2022 in Antipolo City.

Local officials led by Rizal Gov. Nina Ricci Ynares-Chiongbian, City Mayor Casimiro “Junjun” Ynares and Vice Mayor Josefina Gatlabayan officially switched on the lights of the 45-foot holiday tree at Sumulong Park in front of the International Shrine of the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, kicking off the holiday and fiesta celebration in the pilgrimage capital of the country.

The city government said the theme of this year’s Christmas decorations is inspired by Disney movie Encanto to highlight the love for the family. The giant tree was made of more than 6,000 plastic bottles and scrap rubber slippers to highlight the greening, cleaning and recycling campaign, which has been the advocacy of the city and provincial government.

A butterfly haven underneath the giant tree and a dancing fountain are added attraction at the Sumulong Park.
