Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has sat down with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing for a historic meeting that marked 50 years since Australia and the People’s Republic of China established diplomatic relations.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has sat down with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing for more than an hour where the two leaders discussed trade, regional stability and China’s engagement with the world.
“And now, we are embracing a new 50 year in China-Australia relations. So, your visit this time is highly significant, as it builds on the past and ushers in the future.” President Xi closed his remarks by emphasising the need to further develop the “comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries”.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Mr Whitlam’s visit to China in 1973, in which Whitlam met then-Premier Zhou Enlai and the country’s founding father Mao Zedong.
