SYDNEY, N.S. – Scott Morrison hates to waste food. But on Tuesday, the Sydney restaurateur spent hours going through the fridges and freezers at his ...

Flavor Downtown founder and owner Scott Morrison was, on Tuesday, still waiting for power to be restored to the Pitt Street establishment. Morrison was forced to throw out the eatery’s entire inventory after he was finally allowed back in the building which is the only edifice on the block without electricity. The restaurant also suffered significant damage to its sidewalk patio and to the electrical and utility stack that was affixed to the building.

“It seems to be a weird one-off where the building was hit particularly hard – even Nova Scotia Power doesn’t understand what going on,” he said, adding that he hopes to reopen the restaurant next Monday. The situation was not as good at Flavor 19 which is located at the Lingan Golf Club. That venue just reopened Tuesday.

Danny Ellis, another veteran Cape Breton restaurateur, said things could have been a lot worse at his four Sydney establishments. Daniel’s Alehouse and Eatery, located on Charlotte Street, reopened on the Monday following Fiona, while his Boardwalk Taproom and Eatery opened the day after the storm but was without debit and phone lines until Friday.
