A Davao City animal welfare group is urging the local government to strengthen the enforcement of laws protecting animals from abuse and cruelty. The call comes after two consecutive incidents of animal cruelty involving cats. One cat named 'Bullsy' had to have an eye removed due to an infection caused by previous wounds inflicted by an unknown assailant. Another cat named 'Bluei' also needed surgery to remove a bullet lodged in its leg after being shot by an airgun, allegedly by a neighbor. The group emphasizes the need for community and local government support to stop animal cruelty, advocating for the activation of barangays to address these issues.
"Because when we talk about cats and dogs as pets they are community pets they are household pets so they belong to the community. There’s lack of support from the community ang nangyayari natatakot ang complainant,” patuloy niya.
