With Fortescue and Pilbara native title holders unable to agree on compensation for 'economic and cultural loss' caused by mining, the Federal Court will begin hearing evidence in Roebourne today.

, when it saw off FMG's opposition to the decision after the High Court refused to grant leave to appeal.

YAC is led by chief executive Michael Woodley, who is steadfast in his belief that FMG never offered a fair deal and has described the process as a "long battle for justice". "We're all related but we don't talk much … I don't want to get involved," she said during the hearing. Mr Woodley has previously claimed heritage sites such as birthplaces, rock shelters and burial grounds are all within the Solomon Hub boundaries and could have been destroyed by mining.
