Playoff time: De Grasse aims to raise level on big stage again at world championships
“When the playoffs come, that’s the championship, that’s when you’ve really got to bring your A game and that’s what my main focus is, right? … We have these Diamond Leagues or competitions, it’s like the regular season and the world champs or Olympics is the playoffs and that’s when you’ve got to bring your star power.”
“I don’t let that bother me because I know what I’ve accomplished and what I’ve done and what I’m capable of doing. I just never really let that phase me and focus on myself and try to just make sure that whenever the championships do come, that I’m there and I’m ready to perform.”Article content “Just have to brush it off and I think having that extra day off … not racing again until Sunday, you just have to say, ‘Well, don’t worry about it, just focus on the next race and then after it’s all over, you could debrief and figure out what went wrong and how you can get better for the next time.’Article content“In my mind, I was like, cool, I got a step in the right direction but I’m still a little bit far off from where I want to be, so I was 50/50 with it,” De Grasse said.
He had dealt with a second bout with COVID-19 about a month before the championships and dealt with a nagging foot injury for much of last year.
