Why Leafs boss Brendan Shanahan parted ways with GM Kyle Dubas. Here’s a timeline, from Shanahan’s perspective, of how the sides ultimately split after the Leafs’ playoff run came to an end.
Last off-season, Shanahan told Dubas his contract wouldn’t be renewed immediately, that he’d be judged on his full five-year term. Mid-season, the two met at the Ford Performance Centre.
“Kyle appreciated that. We’ve had a good relationship the whole year. That day was nothing different. He came back to me about a week later and said yes, that he was comfortable moving forward. And he said his agent would reach out to me, but that he didn’t want this to be a distraction for him.”
