Panthers lose everything but their shirts in Vegas, dropping second game in Cup final
The Florida Panthers are learning — like everyone else that goes to Vegas — that the house always wins.
Hill’s saves were not just magnificent, they often seemed to send the play the other way, leading to rushes that led to scoring chances, and ultimately deflated whatever life the Panthers had after Vegas chased Bobrovsky on goals by Jonathan Marchessault, Alex Martinez, Nicolas Roy and Brett Howden by 7:10 of the second period.
Florida would have to join some exclusive company to rally from a 2-0 Cup final deficit. Only five have done so: the Bruins in 2011, the Penguins in 2009, the Canadiens in 1971 and 1966, and the Maple Leafs in 1942. “I just don’t think there’s enough room for us to panic,” Gudas said. “We all know what to do, we’ve all been in tough situations before, we’ve been out of a playoff spot for most of the season. It’s been ‘Don’t panic’ since Game 35.”One under-hyped theme to the series — possibly because so much time has passed — is the revenge factor for some members of the Golden Knights. Marchessault and Reilly Smith have a chance to win the Cup against the team that basically gave them away in 2017.
