Firing or trading any of them would feel like change. But it might not actually be progress.
They’re as talented a team as there is in the NHL. The players are some of the best to have ever worn blue and white. They’ve added grit and physicality to their DNA. They went a bit further in the playoffs. And their best players — Matthews, Marner and Nylander — are coming into their prime. Yes, sometimes it feels like watching a murder mystery and you can see the ending coming from the opening credits.
