“Ward One had been operating a comfort centre well before us and they were open days and evenings. Power was mostly restored in their area and their volunteers were getting tired so the Town asked us if we could take over,” said Thibeau. “Initially, we weren’t sure we could get enough directors to provide the service so we asked for community volunteers and we got a great response. We had people offering to help at the centre and others dropping off biscuits, cookies and muffins during the days we were open.”
“Getting together for a Toronto vs Montreal game is an old tradition in the North End and lots of people love it,” said Dorrington who grew up in the North End, still lives there and once worked as the coordinator of summer programs at the rec centre.
