A lighter, more agile Alpine A110 is on the way: here's what we know about the new R derivative in the works
► Could be a final send off for the ICE-powered carAlpine is prepping an even hotter version of its already agile A110. Pitched as a ‘radical version of agility,’ the new car will be called the A110 R, and will be revealed on the 4October during the Japanese Grand Prix weekend. It’ll then be shown at the Paris motor show two weeks later.
Further information is thin on the ground, but a set of graphics released at the same time provide a few clues. A wireframe drawing shows several performance parts that bolt on to the standard car, including a front splitter, sills, diffuser, rear spoiler and bonnet – all the trick bits you’d expect from a track-ready version of an already fast sports car. Finally, the illustration also shows sports seats which feature a five-point racing harness.
An upgraded brake and suspension package and new – presumably lighter – wheels aren’t shown in the complete diagram, but are revealed in separate images.At just 1086kg, the stock car can hardly be described as heavy, but it’s possible Alpine wants to send off its unique creation in style; while the A110 or a car like it will continue in some way in Alpine’s range,
