Stolen wiring has cost the City of Nanaimo upwards of $30,000 this year alone, according to Nanaimo RCMP.
The most recent theft was on Oct. 4, when 75 metres of wire was stolen from light standard junction boxes along Bowen Road. This theft resulted in the street lights being out for four to six hours, and cost over $4,000 to repair.
In a release, RCMP say the wiring has mostly been stolen from the area near Wall Street along Bowen Road, and continuing west along Bowen Road to Pine Street.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.Nanaimo RCMP say almost four kilometres of wiring has been stolen this year, costing the city over $30,000.
“Investigators know from previous experience that only certain individuals are involved in these kinds of thefts. The pool of suspects is relatively small but we do need the public’s help in identifying those responsible,” said Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
