This system is already beginning to organize over the Gulf of Mexico and will move off Cape Hatteras early Monday. The track of the storm as it passes Sable Island is where much of the uncertainty lies right now.
A developing nor’easter will approach Atlantic Canada late Monday, but its potential impacts are still uncertain. There’s always something to keep an eye on in the weather centre these days, and right now, that could be on Valentine’s Day.
Currently, though, the centre of our Texas low is moving northeast of Newfoundland. A trailing trough coupled with brisk northwest winds will keep some scattered flurries in the forecast today, especially over Newfoundland, eastern Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. A high-pressure ridge then moves in on Sunday, bringing brighter weather with it. That high wants to keep our weather calm to start the week, but a developing storm has other plans.
This system is already beginning to organize over the Gulf of Mexico and will move off Cape Hatteras early Monday. From there, the system is forecast to track northeast and pass south of Nova Scotia Tuesday and then south of the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland Wednesday. The track of the storm as it passes Sable Island is where much of the uncertainty lies right now.
Unless the storm shifts to the south substantially, which is possible but less likely, eastern Newfoundland will be impacted regardless of it’s track past Sable on Tuesday into Wednesday.Given these uncertainties, it’s still too early to speculate on specific impacts and amounts. However, I would suggest keeping a close eye on the forecast from late Monday to Wednesday.
