Watch and read the latest from SaltWire weather specialist Allister Aalders about hurricane Lee's influence on Atlantic Canada's weather this weekend.
With hurricane Lee tracking northward and increasing in forward speed, we’re getting a better picture of how the storm will impact Atlantic Canada.Models have shifted Lee’s landfall westward into Maine or southwestern New Brunswick. However, a landfall over western Nova Scotia can’t be ruled out.
If Lee does track farther west and into Maine, then we should be spared the worst of the rainfall. However, western regions of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick could still receive upwards of 50-plus mm with less elsewhere. The strongest winds will be in southwestern Nova Scotia and southwestern New Brunswick, where gusts could top 100 km/h or higher directly along the coast.Large waves, ocean swells and storm surge are possible, with the greatest storm surge threat along the Atlantic and Fundy coasts.
