The challenge in relation to an investigation into potential criminal tax offences.

One of the alleged operators of a massive Lower Mainland money-laundering scheme has launched a federal court challenge to quash a Canada Revenue Agency order for six banks to produce financial information.

The suit also seeks an injunction to prohibit the CRA from using any information or documents obtained from third parties for any purpose and also from disseminating the information or documents to anyone outside the CRA.Qin is attempting to use the federal court challenge to go on a fishing expedition to determine which orders, if any, CRA sent to financial institutions, Department of Justice Canada lawyer Jason Levine said in the CRA’s response.

According to a 2016 B.C. Supreme Court decision granting the CRA access to RCMP evidence gathered in the E-Pirate investigation in 2015, others named in the CRA investigation include Qin’s partner, Jian Jun Zhu; Paul King Pao Jin and his partner Xiaoqi Wei; Hoy Pan Stephen Chen; and Silver International Investments Ltd.
