All five Kwantlen Polytechnic University campuses in Metro Vancouver shut down early Wednesday after RCMP received an “unsubstantiated” threat.
Surrey Mounties say the threat came in shortly after 9 a.m. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Elenore Sturko said no individual was singled out in the threat, nor was a specific campus. Police advised an evacuation of the campuses out of an abundance of caution, according to Surrey RCMP. “Surrey RCMP have alerted us to an unsubstantiated threat against KPU, specific to today,” the school said in a post to staff. “The threat is not specific to any one campus. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution and with the highest regard for the safety and security of our students and employees, KPU is evacuating all buildings immediately and closing all five of its campuses for the remainder of the day.
All classes at all campuses are cancelled for rest of the day and our buildings will remain closed while security reviews the situation.
