“We want everyone to use the City of Edmonton pools in a safe, inclusive and welcoming manner,” she said. “We absolutely want to ensure that our guidelines are fair to everyone and remain aligned with the Alberta Human Rights Act.”“I think we just need to, as a society, stop sexualizing certain body parts just of certain genders because we all have them,” she said, referring to chests and breasts.
The city hadn’t received any feedback about the topless rules before this week, Bhasin-Singh said, but some comments and questions have been trickling in after coverage in local media. The reaction has been mixed but mainly supportive.
